We recently acquired a AC registered puppy and had one heck of a time finding a food that did not upset her tummy. I tried and tried every brand out there, discussed with the vet, tried medications to stop puppy’s loose stools, but nothing helped. I eventually resorted to going to a high end pet store in town and learned about Honest Kitchen. I was surprised at the price, but since I even tried making my own raw dog food from recipes online, I figured it had to be a little easier to but the dehydrated. I seriously cannot tell you the difference this food has made in our puppy. She is healthier than when we got her, the vet is thrilled with her perfect weight, and she is smells great, has great breath, and little tartar on her teeth. She gobbles this food down and LOVES IT!!! Its easy to prepare and I put her servings in little plastic containers with lids and keep them in the fridge so its ready when we are. On top of that, we started feeding it to our senior dog who we really thought was close to death, and she is a new dog! Her energy level has increased, her alertness is sharp, and her coat is beautiful. I wish I had found this for her sooner as it has helped clear up some skin allergies and paw chewing. Please don’t be discouraged by the negative reviews you may read on this site. This food is a godsend and we will use it as long as they make it! Thank you Honest Kitchen!!!

HONEST KITCHEN RECIPES
My boxer girl does great on all the grain free HK Recipes. I have tried them all before settling on only the grain free since discovering she has allergies to grains AND CHICKEN. If allot of you are noticing allergic type reactions or loose stools (grains will do this too), just try taking them off any dog food containing chicken as it is a highly known allergen and you will probably see good results. Spoke with someone which had been having a terrible time with allergies with her 2 basset hound puppies which included chewing on their front legs till they were bald along with stomach issues, etc. I asked her what she was feeding and she said cooked chicken, rice, vegetables with added vitamins. She had been to the vet which of course sold her on the food they were selling and gave her some strong shampoos, which didnt help at all. In fact it got worse. I told her to take them immediately off the chicken and in just a few days she called me and said the dogs had done a complete turnaround and were doing so much better.HK grain free/chicken free are the only recipes I currently use. They are very good and in my opinion, the best of it’s type out there. One thing I dont like is not knowing what % of meat content exactly is in each each box. You really do have to add your own additional meat. I add turkey and rotate with grass fed (and as organic as I can find) raw beef. She is almost 12 years old and the vet thinks she looks fantastic. I do have my own carefully calculated vitamin mixture which I include also am & pm (she’s my child :).I wish HK would take out the parsley stems and just use the leaves if they could do that. The stems are like straw and sharp as daggers, especially the larger ones which I pick out. Have contacted them before about this and it was really bad in the “Zeal” product which is the fish, however they dont include it in the “Embark”Ok, I’m off my soap box for now…..

No other food company compares…review from veterinary personnel
In working in the veterinary field I’ve seen how important it is that pets get adequate nutrition to prevent or treat various medical issues. I’ve seen the negative outcomes of poorer pet food quality. I have a mini schnauzer that before had digestive issues, straining when trying to defecate, bloating, really hard dark stools, licking at the feet. He just wasn’t himself and I could see and sense that he was very uncomfortable. I switched him to THK turkey and took him off of dry kibble completely. One thing I like to tell people is that I work for a Veterinarian that specializes in food therapy. So I’ve learned a considerable amount of things regarding pet food. Please know that although a lot of pet food companies that sell dry kibble (even the expensive brands) claim that their pet food is healthy. Please also know that dry kibble although the ingredients that are supposed to be healthy are very over processed and by the time it gets to the pet the nutrients just aren’t what they should be to provide the pet with the adequate nutrition that they should be getting. THK knows this and makes food that is minimally processed and that’s why I like them. They put freeze dried 100% real ingredients into their recipes that are very good for pets and their tummies. This food completely changed my dog for the better. I buy 1 10lb box and it literally lasts me 2 and a half months. So I’m giving my dog optimum food while saving money as opposed to the food I was giving him before. I use a lot of THK products including the food, treats, goats milk, and bone broth. My dog loves them all and he’s so much better now. Normal stools and no straining. The veterinarian I work for actually sells only THK products at our practice. I’m wanting to try their new dog shampoo bars! I hope this review helps others.

My dog is the most difficult being on the planet (we’ve tried at least four different brands) and he loves it! He kept throwing up because he didn’t eat enough and now, he licks the bowl and comes back to check… It’s crazy! It’s a bit on the pricy side, but it’s understandable considering the ingredients. It would probably cost more to make this food by buying the ingredients and making the food.

My dogs love this food. One of my dogs had allergies for so many years and she would get recurrent ear and paws infections, she is been eating honest kitchen embark for the past year and I can totally see the difference in her, she has also lost some weight. I add a little bit of coconut oil to her food so she can get more fatty acids. Shipping was great.
